Project for Pride in Living Enterprises: Providing a Second Chance
PPL Enterprises was established in 1982 to provide jobs, employment training and support services to those in need of a second chance. The organization is now a very diverse business operation consisting of:
Furnish Office & Home which is a retail operation in northeast Minneapolis with a broad selection of used and new office and home furnishings. Second Chance Recycling located in southeast Minneapolis as a waste diversion operation where over 200 mattresses per day are deconstructed for repurposing of the steel, foam and fabric as materials used in the production of new products.
Custom Apparel services located in St. Paul providing customized apparel for businesses and individuals. Quality Hands located in southeast Minneapolis and St. Paul as a contract manufacturing operation serving local manufacturers. Over 70 program participants are employed at one time in these activities. Participants receive real work experiences in addition to the job training, education and support services they need.
The work experience lasts from between 6 months up to 18 months. The typical participant is recovering from addictions and/or a criminal history and in need of this second chance to re-enter the work force as productive contributors.
